The race season has started,

Monday 12th April, After doing a few time trials, I decided that I need to up the mileage on the bike, so with cracking weather went for a 20 mile ride out to Wrentham and back during my tea break from roofing at home, all done at a nice easy pace.

Tuesday rode over to Bungay to have another go at the 10 mile TT a testing evening as far as weather goes, plenty of rock estate boys riding and supporting, I did the 10 miles in 25.09 mins a new PB by a 1 second margin, consistent if not startlingly speedy, then rode home to give a total ride distance of 45.5 miles, another good session in the bank.

Wednesday, had a rest day.

Thursday the bike ride was round the Breydon route, after a slow start and a few punctures within the fleet, we set off at a reasonable pace from Fritton round the island, with some of the quick cyclists having an easy night this gave me a chance to take my turn on the front when it came around, I was planning to have a reasonably easy night as the first triathlon of the year was coming up on Sunday, That idea went out the window when the pace picked up and he sprint for home started, was knackered when we got back to the Commodore, a total of 39 miles covered, including the off road sections. It was nice to be able to do a bit on the front again.

Friday Did an hours Canoeing with Joe for a bit of cross training, and to rest the legs.

Saturday rested ready for the East coast triathlon.

Sunday started early up at 5.30 to start my race rituals, start fueling for the day and complete numerous visits to the WC to expel the nervous energy starting to build up, This was the first chance to see if my winters training was going to pay off, last year I finished 3rd in this event with a time of 49.48. This year I am hoping to be quicker on all fronts, investment in training and equipment should pay dividends now, If my bike time is slower this year I will not be a happy chap,
all through the event I felt good, didn't kill myself on the swim, felt good on the bike and comfortable on the run although came close to cramping in the first few minutes of the run, but then loosened up and finished strong,
I beat last years time by 3.43 so well chuffed, quicker on all points, beat the bike time by 2 mins 19 seconds, I didn't have a clue what time I had done or position I had finished in, but looking around at all the bike bling and speedy kit in use didn't expect to be in the running for a top 3 place, was very surprised to have finished 2nd overall,
A good start to the season for me and the other Rock Estate entrants, Chris, Tim and Mark, all putting in good times, Chris Knights put in the 3rd quickest swim time of the day. A good confidence boost for the rest of the season, Must up the training intensity.
